Public Information Meeting
Representatives for the Athenian Charter Academy of Estero returned to seek Design Review Board comments on changes they have made to their proposed K-8, two-story, 68,000 square foot charter school on the east side of Via Coconut Point, in the southwest portion of the Estero Community Park.
They initially presented to the Board on July 27 and August 10, 2016. At that time, the Board made a number of comments regarding the classical architecture and tying it in with the covered basketball court, adding columns in the porte cochere and landscaping the tot lot.
At this meeting, the applicant reviewed the site plan which includes the potential of two soccer fields that would have shared use with the Estero High School and the Park.
They addressed some of the changes they have made to the building since the last meeting, including creating more detail on the columns and trim between the windows at the front, as well as trellises to add more dimension to the building.
The landscaping plans include royal palms, magnolia, shady lady and bulnesia trees and bougainvillea.
Board members suggested when the applicant returns they bring detailed color charts for all the elements of the building as well as the dumpster enclosure.
The school is proposing to open in 2017, will house 1148 students and plans to teach the students both Greek and Spanish. (Presentation)
Estero Grande requested to be rescheduled to a future date.
They are applying for turn lane improvements, construction of an entry road, and installation of backbone utility to support four commercial parcels and one multi-family residential community on their 29.6 acre parcel located west of the intersection of Estero Parkway and US 41.
