Public information meetings will be conducted for the landscape design for Estero Parkway, the Florida Cancer Specialists’ medical office and outpatient treatment center located east of US 41 and south of Pelican Colony Blvd. and the Pavich Center located at 21256 Happy Hollow Lane and 8910 Corkscrew Road. Representatives for Sprouts Farmers Market were requesting approval for their design for a 29,896 square-foot grocery store, associated parking infrastructure and monument sign. The applicant has made a number of changes to enhance the design of their building, removing some of the horizontal lines from the original design and adding embellishments, arches and parapets, as well as enhancing the landscape design. The Planning & Zoning Board and Design Review Board conducted a joint meeting for a presentation of the proposed Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. A consultant for the project reviewed the fact that there had been a number of ways for the community to participate in the planning process. Over 1,000 comments were made online, there were focus groups with a mix of people representing the chamber of commerce, business, the park, etc., and two public workshops were conducted. Public Hearing Aldi at Estero Town Center Representatives from Aldi presented during a public hearing at the Design Review Board meeting on April 10 2019. This is a proposed 22,149 square-foot grocery store which is located east of US 41 and directly north of Walmart at Estero Parkway. The Design Review Board will conduct a Public Hearing for Aldi at Estero Town Center at their meeting at 5:30 p.m., April 10. This is a proposed 22,149 square-foot grocery store which is located east of US 41 and directly north of Walmart at Estero Parkway. They will also conduct a Public Hearing for a 120-room hotel. This is located on a 2.61-acre parcel on Walden Center Drive close to the intersection of US-41 and Coconut Road. Workshop Representatives for Sprouts Farmers Market at Estero Grande presented their plans for a 29,000 sq. ft. grocery store, associated parking, infrastructure and monument sign before the Design Review Board on March 13. The applicants stated they have made a number of changes to the building’s architectural design following February’s Public Information Meeting. The February 13 meeting started with a presentation by District 2 Councilmember Howard Levitan reviewing the role of the Design Review Board. Levitan stated the Land Development Code consultant will be assisting in reviewing the scope of the board, looking at having staff review and perform some of the work on smaller projects with the board reviewing and performing the major projects, adding a staff report to accompany applications, hiring experts to testify in certain cases, implementing Pattern Books for major rezonings, among other topics. REMINDER: Council to review a “Recognition Policy” and Design Review Board process in a workshop at 9:30, Wednesday, January 30, 2019
Council will discuss establishing a Recognition Policy for special contributions made to the community as currently there is no policy in place. Council will then talk about how to fill a recent vacancy, as well as any future vacancies, on the Design Review Board. The duties of the Design Review Board include interpretation of overall design, architectural detail and landscape designs. Following this workshop, Council will leave the chambers to convene an attorney/client session.
