It is with deep sadness the Village Council and Staff acknowledges the passing of former District 3 Councilmember Donald A. Brown on June 20, 2017.

Don was elected to serve District 3 on Estero’s first Village Council in March 2015.  In May 2017, he reluctantly submitted his letter of resignation due to serious health-related issues.

Don was a 13-year resident of Estero.  Prior to proudly serving on the Village Council, he served as an Estero Council of Community Leaders’ (ECCL) Representative from the Belle Lago community.  He also served on the Health Care Committee, working to bring a comprehensive health care facility to the Estero/Bonita Springs area.

He was also involved in many other community organizations.  He served on the Lee Memorial Health System’s Board of Directors and was a community representative to that group.  He also served as a board member of the Belle Lago Homeowners Association and Chairman of the Friends of Lovers Key, Lovers Key State Park.

Don’s background included 25 years as owner/operator of a small business in Quincy, Illinois.  He was also involved in a number of civic activities there, including founding the Quincy Parks Foundation, serving two terms on the Park District Board of Commissioners, President of the Quincy Rotary Club, Chairman of the Adams County Red Cross and Co-Chair of the Quincy Notre Dame Annual Fund Drive.

He is survived by his devoted wife Karen.
