Public Information Meeting
Representatives for Estero Bay Chevrolet gave a presentation on the changes they are considering to make to their existing building in order to add an accessory car wash for their use (not public) and an additional 321 square feet of office space. Estero Bay Chevrolet is located at 10640 Chevrolet Way, just west of I-75.
A representative for The Reef sought approval for their proposed monument sign. The Reef is a student apartment complex located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Estero Parkway and Three Oaks Parkway.
The signage will be located at the entrance to the property on the north side and matches the colors of the buildings. LED lighting will be attached to the base of the sign, shining up, behind the landscaping.
The Board approved this sign.
Representatives for Dunkin Donuts/Valvoline presented their proposed buildings at the Shoppes at Grand Oaks on Corkscrew Road and Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.
The Design Review Board had approved this project on June 28, 2016, with numerous stipulations and revisions. The applicant reviewed the changes made per the Board’s earlier recommendations, which included changes to the architecture, common elements and landscaping.
The Board agreed the applicant had met the earlier approved conditions with the stipulation that the Valvoline dormers be changed to 1 foot to be consistent with the Dunkin Donuts building and that coco plums be added to the south side of the sidewalk.
Representatives for the Athenian Charter Academy of Estero were seeking Design Review Board comments on their proposed K-8, two-story, 70,000 square foot charter school on the east side of Via Coconut Point in the southwest part of the Estero Community Park.
The school plans to open in August 2017 and will house 1148 students. It will include two soccer fields and shared facilities with the Estero Community Park and Estero High School. There will be pedestrian connectivity to the plaza space in the center of the school building and to the soccer fields and the “airnasium”, outdoor covered sport court.
The Board made a number of comments regarding the classical architecture and tying it in with the airnasium, adding columns in the porte cochere, and landscaping the tot lot.
Wawa at Estero Town Center – The representatives were looking for Design Review Board feedback on the proposed 6,000 sq. ft. Wawa food service/convenience store with 16 gas pumps on the southeast corner of Three Oaks Parkway and Corkscrew Road.
They are proposing a barrel tiled roof on the convenience store and fueling structure, using a copper color on the canopy instead of their corporate red color, and a stucco building instead of their usual clapboard-sided building.
The Board made a number of comments and suggestions including the fact that the property would require a deviation to the Corkscrew Road overlay, the right in right out on Corkscrew Road offers no acceleration lane so would be a safety issue, the parking to sidewalk without landscaping is not permitted, among others.
