Approximately 400 residents gathered at the Estero Community Park on a sunny Saturday, February 18, to participate in the first annual Estero Heart Walk & Wellness Festival.
Purpose of the walk was to raise awareness and funds to fight cardiovascular diseases, which is this country’s number 1 and number 5 killers – heart disease and stroke.
This event raised $63,645 for the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association to provide professional and community education, as well as critical research.
Mayor Nick Batos initiated the walk by reading a proclamation announcing February 18, 2017, as the “Village of Estero Heart Walk Day”. He also congratulated the American Heart Association and co-chairs of the event, Doug and Barbara Saxton, for their efforts in making this first Village-wide event a success.
