Anne Rupp, John Frisella, Elaine Frisella, Judy Lefevre, Alphee Lefevre The Village’s Adopt a Road initiative collected 2,080 pounds of litter this season from three roadways: Williams Road, Via Coconut Point, and Estero Parkway. Volunteers from Mirasol, Lighthouse Bay, Genova, Lee Health, and Pelican Sound worked 304 hours in this endeavor. Keep Lee County Beautiful helps to support this program with supplies, and recognized all of the volunteers in Estero as “Outstanding Adoption Group” for the second year in a row. The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, with proclamations for National Boat Safety Week and 4KIDS – National Foster Care Awareness Month. Council will address a pre-construction services contract to manage the construction of roadway and intersection improvements along Williams Road, west of US 41, to prevent illegal left turns at the Walgreen entrance and provide a roundabout the Life Care Center entrance. Lee County Utilities will be temporarily converting its disinfectant process from chloramines to free chlorine residual from May 1 through May 21. This is a routine measure that is common for water utilities using chloramines as its primary disinfectant. Residents who use a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment can be installed. Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks. Corkscrew Road Widening Project – Phase I Construction Project:  The project widens Corkscrew Road to six lanes from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Fire House Lane, and to four lanes from Fire House Lane to Bella Terra Boulevard.  The project includes adding on-road bike lanes, some sidewalk, installing new drainage, and constructing a wildlife crossing approximately 1000 feet west of the entrance to Cypress Shadows Boulevard.  This crossing will coincide with a regional flow-way that crosses Corkscrew Road at that location. The Village of Estero will be installing shared use paths, lighting, and landscaping as phasing allows.  Drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists are urged to [...]

On March 29, FEMA verbally informed Lee County and four municipalities (City of Bonita Springs, City of Cape Coral, Town of Fort Myers Beach and the Village of Estero) that it would be potentially removing discounts on the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) on premiums that allow residents to save money on their flood insurance effective October 1. FEMA has expressed concerns related to compliance with the NFIP.  The Village, and each of the other jurisdictions similarity cited, maintains that we are in compliance.
