
Over 400 residents, young and old, came to the Estero Community Park on Saturday, Nov. 8, to pay tribute to all of our veterans, active military, first responders and Gold Star families.

District 5 Councilmember Rafael Lopez welcomed the crowd, followed by the presentation of colors by the Estero JROTC.. Mayor Joanne Ribble then recognized the Estero Councilmembers and other dignitaries in the crowd.
Local entertainer Mark Sanders served as MC and performed a number of patriotic songs, including several accompanied by the Estero High School Band.
The powerful keynote address was presented by Florida Rep. Dist. 79 and US Army Veteran Mike Giallombardo.
The program included an American classic car show, military vehicles on display, Lee County Sherrif’s Office Honor Guard, a visit by Too Tall Tori and Captain America, and face painting by Cyndy.
The ever-popular New Horizons Choir Southwest Florida Children’s Choir performed “This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag.”
During the event, residents enjoyed the free hotdogs served up by the Tidewater Veterans Group.
A 21-gun salute by the Lee County Sherriff’s Office and Taps played by Lee Sherriff Sergeant Pezzella closed out the event.

It takes a village to arrange for this event: volunteers from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Lee County Parks & Recreation, Estero Fire Rescue, Estero High School Band and JROTC, Tidewater Veterans Group & Community, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, Estero church groups, Greater Estero Chamber of Commerce, Engage Estero, Estero Forever Foundation, Estero Historical Society, Estero Life Magazine, Estero Rotary Club and Estero staff.
In addition, donations were provided by Walmart, Publix and the Estero Historical Society.
