As part of the approved 2020 Open Space Master Plan, the Village of Estero has identified four areas (sometimes referred to as “hubs”) of focus for “placemaking” – developing these areas to incorporate community aesthetic features and connecting them to each other through multi-modal corridors as destinations for the benefit of residents and visitors.

The “Village Center Hub” will be the first of four hubs that will be master planned to create higher-intensity, mixed-use land uses along both Corkscrew Road and US 41 and an iconic new Village Hall/Civic Center that establishes a civic presence and brand.

The hub is already home to the Village’s civic uses, including Village Hall, Estero High School, and Estero Community Park and Recreation Center. Through a public-private approach, the Village Center Hub will soon include interconnected mixed-use sports and entertainment campuses that features recreational facilities, parks, public spaces, and many more for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Sports Park Campus

FAQs

In 2024, the Village of Estero entered into a 99-year lease agreement with the Lee County School District, where the Village will invest $10,000,000 over the next five (5) years to enhance the Jeff Sommer Stadium, existing fields, facilities, and hardcourts, while also creating greenspace and walking trails. This collaborative effort sets the stage for a win-win-win situation between the Village, the School District, and the community.

In the coming months, the Village will start programming sports, recreation, and family entertainment events for all of the Estero community to enjoy with no additional costs to the School District or to Estero residents.

The Village will assume all operational, maintenance, and activation responsibilities of the sports park campus beginning August 2024, with priority given to Estero High School Interscholastic sports teams per its shared use agreement with the Lee County School District.

Contractor Hellas Construction began working on the brand-new turf football field in April 2024 and is on track to be completed August 2024. The new field consists of Ecotherm Infill providing dramatic surface temperature reduction and requiring no water. Ecotherm is made from recycled materials and cellulose fibers capturing ambient moisture from the air, creating an evaporative cooling effect for the turf system and temperature reductions up to 30°F. This enhancement is critical in the Southwest Florida climate.

Estero High School interscholastic sports teams shall have priority use per the Shared Use Agreement entered into by the Village and Lee County School Corporation.
