Public Hearing

Aldi at Estero Town Center

AldiRepresentatives from Aldi presented during a public hearing at the Design Review Board meeting on April 10 2019.

This is a proposed 22,149 square-foot grocery store which is located east of US 41 and directly north of Walmart at Estero Parkway.

The applicant noted the changes which have been made since initial meetings with the Board including extending the FDOT-approved entryway with a right in and right out, a drive aisle around the building and adding pedestrian interconnects.

They have added green screens (landscaping) along the foundation of most of the building to soften the look as well as an 8 foot tall wall to work as a barrier to their neighbors, and a sidewalk that leads to Walmart and US 41.

Hours of operation are planned to be from 9 a.m. – 10 p.m., so there will be no lights at night and no truck deliveries after closing.  They have made changes in the building by adding archways, adding more textures and colors, the columns are wider and added vegetation. (Presentation)

Public Comment: 6 members of the public spoke in favor of approving this application.

The Board voted to recommend a continuance for two weeks until the Village Land Use Attorney can address the existing pole signage on the applicant’s property; pole signage is not allowed in Estero.  Otherwise, the Board agreed the applicant has made all other changes to make the property harmonious with the community, as required.

Staybridge SuitesThe applicant is proposing a 5-story, 120-room Staybridge Suites Hotel located on a 2.61-acre parcel on Walden Center Drive close to the intersection of US-41 and Coconut Road.  They will provide a 4-foot sidewalk on Walden Center Drive and a sidewalk connection to Coconut Road.  There will be a guest pool as well as a public seating area with benches overlooking the lake.

The monument sign has been raised with the same elements as on the building. (Presentation)

During this public hearing, the Board voted to approve this application with the stipulation that the 4-foot sidewalk include a 2-foot grass strip.
