Bring your family and friends to the Collier-Lee Honor Flight, Mission #25, Welcome Home Celebration starting at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, at RSW International Airport. You will find it’s one of the most patriotic events you have ever experienced. You will meet and greet 85 WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam War veterans as they return from their trip to Washington, D.C. Budget, water monitoring and utility extension projects on the agenda for Council at 5:05 p.m., September 20, 2023
Council will start their meeting at 5:05 p.m., Wednesday, with public hearings to adopt the millage rate and budget for FY 2023-24. There will then be proclamations presented to Pinewoods Elementary Principals Leslie Gunderson and Dr. Denise Carlin acknowledging their many achievements as educators. Corkscrew Road Widening Update from Lee County September 15, 2023
Beginning Monday, September 18, crews will be reconstructing the intersection of Midnight Blue Boulevard at Corkscrew Road. During this time, one half of the driveway will remain open to two-way traffic, for both entering and exiting the community. Crews are scheduled to begin work on the east side first. Once the east side (entrance) is completed, crews will shift traffic and begin work on the west side (exit). Motorists should expect an uneven surface when the driveway is re-opened. Estero Historical Society September 16 presentation has been postponed
The history of the Koreshan Unity Settlement program will be presented at a later date. The Society plans a Fall Yard Sale on October 14 and local historian Jacob Winge is scheduled to give a talk on Ponce de Leon on October 21. Check out their website here.

Lead docent at Koreshan State Park Ron Wescott will describe how the Koreshan Unity Settlement moved from Chicago to southwest Florida in 1893 and had a profound effect on the development of this area. The presentation plus continental breakfast will start at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, in the historic Art Hall at Koreshan State Park. Council will start their meeting at 5:05 p.m., Thursday, with public hearings pertaining to the FY 2023-2024 millage rate and tentative budget. Hurricane Idalia Update
Lee County residents are urged to use caution Wednesday even as Hurricane Idalia has moved well away from the area. Coastal street flooding is still present and is expected to occur again midafternoon today at high tide. Avoid unnecessary trips. Gusty winds remain possible. Twenty-four individuals and families stayed in the Safe Haven at the Estero Recreation Center last night; it closed at 1 p.m. today. Any residents who have concerns post Idalia can call 2-1-1. Special emergency meeting conducted by Village Council on August 29, 2023
Council conducted an emergency meeting on Tuesday in order to address a resolution pertaining to the potential threat of Hurricane Idalia. The Village was taking action as a precautionary step to protect all residents. A state of a local emergency is a necessary procedure to ensure the Village can recover any costs, should damage occur. Council adopted Resolution No. 2023-20, waving Section 5 No. 2, declaring a state of local emergency in the Village.
