Estero Historical Society Board President Gail Langner will discuss the historical evidence that fills out the history of the Alverez-Smith family and their home.  She will provide a deeper understanding of the family’s history and how it has shaped the development of the community. Following Langner’s presentation, Jeff McCullers will be available to answer questions and discuss further details of the family’s story. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Villages of Country Creek clubhouse, 21180 Country Creek Drive.  Tickets are $10 for members and $15 for non-members.  Register here.

Lee County Parks & Recreation Summer Camp registration opens at 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27. Registration is expected to draw thousands of youngsters to programs, outings and activities at the department’s traditional camps, middle school camps and specialty camps. Traditional camps are for children that have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Middle school camps are for sixth through eighth grade. Village staff contacted Verizon regarding the loss of service for residents living east of I-75 and were told residents need to call to get a ticket number.  The more calls Verizon receives, the higher the priority becomes.  It is expected that the other service providers would react the same way. Be prepared to wait a long time when contacting the service provider.  Staff spent 1 hour 20 minutes on hold prior to speaking with a representative.

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center, which has been operating in the Village Hall Council Chambers since November 17, 2022, plans to close at this location at 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 14.
