Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m. reviewing the list of applications for the Village’s new Planning, Zoning & Design Board. This Board will take over the functions formerly assigned separately to the Planning and Zoning Board and the Design Review Board. There will be a first reading of Ordinance 2021-02 for the rezoning of a .73-acre parcel at the intersection of Corkscrew Road and Happy Hollow Lane, site of the proposed Pavich Center. Estero High girls varsity soccer team is seeded # 1 In the District playoff after their win of 8-0 over IDA Baker on January 29. Their next game will be the semi-finals at Estero High School’s Jeff Sommer Stadium Tuesday, February 2, at 7:00 pm. They will play the winner of Lely (#4) and Golden Gate (#5). If successful, they will then play at home again on Thursday, February 4 at 7:00 pm. All game tickets must be purchased in advance at https://gofan.co/app/school/FL13096 The high school stadium can accommodate 500 fans following CDC recommended guidelines.

Bonita Springs/Estero Elks Lodge #2753 held a car show on Saturday, January 23, 2021, to raise funds for the Army of Hope. The Army of Hope assists Florida active-duty military personnel, wounded veterans and family members of a military member killed in action. Estero Fire Rescue opened the event at 11 a.m. by raising the American flag which was followed by the judging of a variety of cars. Council will then be asked to approve the agreement between the Village and Estero Crossings for the payment of their share of construction costs for the construction of the Corkscrew Road/Puente Lane traffic signal. The Florida Department of Health and Lee County government will launch a reservation system and a new, larger site for free COVID-19 vaccinations for frontline healthcare workers and people age 65 and older. The reservation system will launch Monday and vaccinations will resume Tuesday at a single site east of Interstate 75 off of Daniels Parkway. It’s the site of the old airport terminal parking lot. Message boards will direct traffic to Paul J. Doherty Parkway. Only people with appointments will be vaccinated. The meeting started with Lee County Sherriff’s Office Community Liaison Amy Dell Aquila describing the Deputy Dog Program.  The program began with the rescue and adoption of the dog Chance who was found with his mouth taped shut.  Deputy Chance’s main initiative is to prove animal abuse is never acceptable. Aquila then introduced special guests Estero resident Richard Wilbanks and his dog Gunner.  Wilbanks and Gunner made national news recently when Wilbanks rescued Gunner from the jaws of an alligator.  Gunner is the newest member of the Deputy Dog team.
