The Planning, Zoning and Design Board meeting scheduled for Sept. 27, 2022 has been cancelled due to anticipated inclement weather. We will announce the rescheduled date when that decision has been made. The Board will start their meeting at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, with a public hearing for Pelican Sound River Club which has revised their application to proceed with pickleball courts only. Final budget hearings scheduled for Council on September 21, 2022
Council will start their regular meeting at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday. The second and final reading and public hearings for setting the Fiscal Year 2022-2023 millage rate and adopting the tentative budget will begin at 5:30 p.m. Please Note: the budget portion of the meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. as required by state law. ReadingPals volunteers needed for 2022-2023 school year
United Way of Lee, Hendry, and Glades is recruiting volunteers for the United Way ReadingPals program to read with PreK to 2nd graders at 12 school sites in Lee County, including Estero’s Pinewoods Elementary and New Horizons Estero. ReadingPals offers volunteers an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with young children, while helping them improve their social-emotional development and early literacy skills. First reading and public budget hearings Resolution No. 2022-23 Council approved this resolution adopting the tentative millage rate and tentative levying of ad valorem taxes for fiscal year 2022-2023 of 0.7700 mills ($0.7700 per $1,000 of assessed property value). This is the same as last year and is the lowest tax rate in southwest Florida. The second and final public hearing will be held at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 21. The Village of Estero, Estero Forever Foundation and Estero Chamber of Commerce invite you to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Golf Coast Driving Range, 9000 Williams Road, at 9 a.m., Friday. Doors will open at 8 a.m., with coffee and refreshments provided. In addition, driving range specials will be available from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The 10-acre Golf Coast Driving Range property was recently purchased by the Village to ultimately be re-developed for the benefit of the community. Public Hearings Riverwoods Plantation The applicant was requesting a special exception in order to add 4 pickleball courts on the south side of their existing tennis courts. Riverwoods Plantation is a 55+ mobile home park with 640 homes located west of US 41 and north of Broadway West. The pickleball courts will be placed on an 18-acre recreation area at their entrance where there are 4 existing tennis courts, a volleyball court, dog park and large pine trees. Hurricane season preparation reminder
Hurricane season peaks from mid-August to mid-October As we head into the peak season for hurricanes, everyone should review their hurricane preparation plans. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration last week predicted there is a 60% chance for above normal activity this hurricane season. The weather agency predicts 14 to 20 named storms. The predicted number of hurricanes remains at six to 10, while those storms that hit the major category of at least 111 mph are now forecast to be three to five. Arcos Executive Office The Board will start their meeting at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, with three public hearings. The first will be for Riverwoods Plantation’s request for pickleball courts. Riverwoods Plantation is located at approximately one miles west of US 41 and north of Broadway West. Representatives for the Arcos Executive Office will be presenting their request for a development order for a three-story building at the northeast corner of Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway.
