Household chemical waste collection scheduled at Estero Park on October 18, 2023
Residents will be able to dispose of household chemical waste safely and responsibly from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18. Items will not be accepted either before or after that time period. Chemical waste categories include items that are ignitable, corrosive, explosive and/or reactive and toxic. Never dispose of these items in dumpsters, compactors or at curbside with household garbage or down a storm drain or in the soil. Corkscrew Road Widening Update from Lee County on October 6, 2023
During the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday, October 8 through Tuesday, October 10, motorists should expect lane closures at the intersection of Corkscrew Road and Stoneybrook Golf Drive for crews to remove old signal poles. Beginning Monday, October 9, crews will be reconstructing the entrance of the RiverCreek Community at Corkscrew Road. During this time, one half of the driveway will remain open to two-way traffic, for both entering and exiting the community. Motorists should expect an uneven surface when the driveway is re-opened. The meeting started with a presentation by Captain Chris Wittman with the Captains for Clean Water. He described how the organization originated in 2016 as local businesses and the entire community were affected following the massive discharges from Lake Okeechobee. He explained that water quality affects our economy, real estate and tourism. He emphasized the importance of redirecting the discharges and sending water into the Everglades where it is needed. The Village of Estero is hosting a free, festive community-wide Veterans Day celebration from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, at the Estero Community Park.
