Public Hearing

The Board started their meeting with a public hearing for an amendment to Commercial Planned Development to add a 178-foot-tall monopole cell tower on a 12-acre parcel at 19980 Bella Terra Blvd. off Corkscrew Road.

The facility will include the monopole with antennas, a 4 x 8-foot concrete pad for a generator, three 10 x 15- foot lease areas, all of which will be enclosed by an eight-foot chain-link fence with barbed wire surrounded by a fifteen-foot-wide landscape buffer with double hedgerow and sable palms.

According to the applicant Broadus Tower, this facility is necessary to improve the coverage and capacity of Verizon’s cellular service and close a gap in service in the Bella Terra, Wild Blue, and The Preserve at Corkscrew communities. Collocation space will be made available on the monopole for three other providers, including T-Mobile.

Public Comment: 10 eComments were placed into the record;6 residents spoke with four in favor of the proposed cell tower and 2 against.

The Board voted to recommend Council approve this application with a number of conditions.

Goddard School for Early Childhood Development

The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development is planning to build a two-story, 14,000-square foot school with playground at 10100 Arcos Avenue at Plaza del Sol just south of the car wash.

The school will provide 12 months of service for 180 children, from 6 weeks to 5 years of age.

Some of the Board comments included the fact that the building needs more articulation, the addition of awnings and/or shutters over the doors and windows, and the monument sign could use additional color or roof cover over the sign.

Coastal Palms Academy

Coastal Palms Academy (now called Palms Day School) is proposing a 13,400 square foot daycare/pre-school for children from infant to pre-school age on a 3.5-acre site at 9600 Corkscrew Road.  They plan to offer services to 225 children with a staff of 22. They expect parents to drop off the children between 6:30 – 9 a.m. and pick them back up between 3:30 – 6 p.m.

This academy will be at the corner of Corkscrew Road and River Ranch Road.  Plans call the building to be painted in shades of bronze beige, linen sand and green, with a galvanized steel roof, and outdoor playground/learning area.  There will be a perimeter fence around the playground at the rear of the building.
