Public Comment on non-agenda items: The president and publisher of Estero Life Magazine spoke about how residents now have the opportunity to become an “Estero Insider” by subscribing to the magazine, which is now be available for subscription on its 5th anniversary, September 2021.

Council started their meeting approving a comprehensive annual financial report which provides details of operations for the 12 months ending on September 30, 2020.   Jeff Tuscan of Tuscan & Company Certified Public Accountants & Consultants, gave a short presentation on their audit, stating that it was an extremely positive report and congratulated Village staff (Report) (Comparative Summary)

Cloud server transition

cloud computingCouncil then reviewed  transitioning the Village’s data storage to the cloud to address the following goals:

  • Improve the Village’s cybersecurity, to protect data and operations
  • Maximize workforce’s efficiency and mobility
  • Minimize daily upkeep and infrastructure-based liability and risk

Council gave Village Manager Steve Sarkozy authority to execute three letters of engagement, or similarly priced alternatives, and other invoices related to these services to Liftoff, AvePoint, and MCCI.  The upfront costs are expected to be $32,210 with a 10% contingency, and annual costs are expected to be $34,519.62,  This compares to the current annual cost of $37,232.27.  (Summary)

Public Hearing date for school site Comprehensive Plan amendment

Council set the date and time for the public hearing for 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021.

Lien Mitigation – 20318 Sherrill Lane, Broadway Mobile Home Village

Council approved a lien mitigation request releasing any outstanding liens against this property in exchange for payment of a reduced fine of $5,000 and $327.20 for administrative costs.  (Summary)

Ordinance 2021-09 – gas franchise agreement

Council passed the first reading of this ordinance pertaining to a franchise agreement with Peoples Gas System, a division of Tampa Electric Company.  A second reading was set for July 21, 2021.  (Ordinance)

Lee County Proposed FY 21/22 Municipal Solid Waste Disposal and Solid Waste System Assessment

Village Manager Steve Sarkozy stated that the Lee County Board of County Commissioners will be conducting a public hearing on August 3 to evaluate the costs, which are expected to increase somewhat.

No voting occurs during workshops.
