Corkscrew Road Widening

Below is this week’s update for the Corkscrew Road Widening project.  Crews are moving east with the force main installation.

The following work activities are scheduled to occur, weather permitting:

  • Through the week of February 28, crews will be installing utilities under Midnight Blue Boulevard (Wild Blue).  Access will be maintained.  Motorists are urged to follow signs and expect traffic pattern changes.
  • Through the week of February 28, residents in The Preserve at Corkscrew may notice a fluctuation in water pressure while crews connect to a new water main.  Service is expected to be maintained during this work.
  • Beginning the week of February 28, crews will be demolishing the median just west of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway.  Drivers are urged to use caution as work occurs near the travel lanes.
  • TECO subcontractors will be doing utility work near the intersection of Corkscrew Woods Parkway.  Motorists should expect the eastbound lane closed in this area from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2.  This work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. on Thursday, March 3.
  • FPL crews continue to remove and de-energize lines from Cypress Shadows Boulevard to Wild Blue Boulevard.
  • Pedestrians must use the temporary walkway on the south side of Corkscrew Road from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Stoneybrook Golf Drive.
  • Currently in the area between Wild Blue Boulevard and Cypress Shadows Boulevard (The Preserve at Corkscrew) vehicles are using temporary lanes on the north side of the road to allow crews to work on the south side of Corkscrew Road.
  • Turn lanes are currently unavailable at Midnight Blue Boulevard, Wild Blue Boulevard and Cypress Shadows Boulevard (The Preserve at Corkscrew).

Crews are installing curb, drainage, and sod, as well as performing earthwork, and relocating utilities. MOTORISTS ARE REMINDED TO OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated completion is fall 2023. Project cost is approximately $23 M. The contractor is Cougar Contracting, LLC.
