Much of the work originally scheduled for this week was rescheduled for the following week to minimize impacts to traffic AFTER the traffic shift occurs.

RESCHEDULED:  During the nighttime/overnight hours on Monday, February 20 through Wednesday, February 22, motorists are urged to plan extra time when using the Ben Hill Griffin Parkway intersection. Crews will be replacing the signal.  Motorists should expect turn lane closures and intermittent traffic stops as equipment is removed and replaced.

  • RESCHEDULED:  During the nighttime/overnight hours on Thursday, February 23, motorists are urged to plan extra time when using the Stoneybrook Golf Drive intersection. Crews will be replacing the signal.  Motorists should expect turn lane closures and intermittent traffic stops as equipment is removed and replaced.
  • RESCHEDULED:  Crews will be working during the nighttime/overnight hours on Thursday, February 24 to switch traffic to the new lanes.  Motorists should expect a new traffic pattern on Friday morning, February 25.Crews continue striping, limerock, curb and gutter, and guardrail installation throughout the project to facilitate this switch.  This shift will allow for the next phase of construction of the bridge/wildlife crossing, box culverts, and roadway on the north side (westbound) of the project.
  • Motorists should expect one lane in the Bella Terra exit to be closed Monday, February 20 and Tuesday, February 21.  Besides this work activity, two lanes of two-way travel has been restored ahead of schedule in the Bella Terra driveway.

Motorists should expect construction vehicles pulling in and out of traffic near the driveways of The Preserve at Corkscrew and Bella Terra. Motorists will be guided to stop short of the stop bars when leaving these communities to provide space for the trucks to back in along the roadway and deliver limerock to build the road.  Flaggers will assist motorists when necessary.

  • Crews continue construction of the roadway between Wild Blue Boulevard and The Preserve.  Crews continue work on the 10-foot-high fence that will be used to funnel the wildlife to cross safely under Corkscrew Road.  Motorists should be aware of vehicles entering/exiting the road in this area.
  • Bicyclists should expect the bike lane from Stoneybrook Golf Drive to just east of Wildcat Run to be combined with the travel lane while crews work on the north side of the road.
  • Pedestrians should expect the sidewalk on the south side of the road closed from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Stoneybrook Golf Drive while the Village of Estero constructs the shared use path.
  • Turn lanes are currently unavailable at Wild Blue Boulevard, Cypress Shadows Boulevard (The Preserve at Corkscrew), Midnight Blue Boulevard, and Bella Terra Boulevard (eastbound right-turn lane).

The work activities above are scheduled to occur, however unforeseen underground conditions and weather may affect this schedule.

WORK PERFORMED BY OTHERS:

  • GL Homes is actively working in their development site across from Wild Blue Boulevard.  Motorists should expect delays and use caution as construction vehicles enter/exit the roadway. On heavy haul days, GL Homes will be providing flaggers to reduce backups on Corkscrew Road.
  • The Village of Estero has begun construction on the shared use path on the south side of the road from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Stoneybrook Golf Drive.  The Village is currently designing the path to extend to the east property line of Bella Terra and on the north side of the road to east of Grandezza.

MOTORISTS ARE REMINDED TO OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated completion is late 2023. Project cost is approximately $23 M. The contractor is Cougar Contracting, LLC.
