Corkscrew Road Widening

The following work activities are scheduled to occur, weather permitting.

  • During the nighttime/overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22, crews will be installing the signal arms over the roadway at Corkscrew Road and Ben Hill Griffin Parkway. Motorists should expect long delays as crews must close movements throughout the intersection during these times.  Motorists are urged to use Alico Road during this work. 
  • During the nighttime/overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 20 through Wednesday, June 22, flaggers will be onsite to assist motorists near Bella Terra Boulevard.  Crews will be demolishing existing curb in the medians.The left turn lanes will be closed for this work.  Flaggers will be onsite to assist motorists.
  • The contractor continues underground work in the driveway of The Preserve at Corkscrew (Cypress Shadows Boulevard).  Crews are currently working in the entrance.  The exit is open to two-way travel.  Once this work is complete, the contractor will move to work in the exit and both directions of travel will use the entrance.  The contractor is expecting to switch traffic on Monday, June 27Work in the entrance is expected to continue until early/mid July.  Unforeseen underground conditions and weather may affect this schedule.
  • Currently motorists using Wild Blue Boulevard should expect two-way traffic to use the community’s entrance (east side). Work in the Wild Blue exit is anticipated to continue through early July 2022.
  • Crews continue construction of the bridge/wildlife crossingbetween Wild Blue Boulevard and The Preserve at Corkscrew that will allow animals to cross under Corkscrew Road, similar to the crossing just east of Alico Road. A 10-foot-high fence will be installed to funnel the wildlife to cross at this location.  Currently crews are constructing box culverts near the bridge/crossing that convey water under the roadway.  Motorists should be aware of vehicles entering/exiting the road in this area.
  • Bicyclists should expect the bike lane from Stoneybrook Golf Drive to just east of Wildcat Run to be combined with the travel lane while crews work on the north side of the road.
  • Pedestrians must use the temporary walkway on the south side of Corkscrew Road from Ben Hill Griffin Parkway to Stoneybrook Golf Drive.
  • Currently in the area between Wild Blue Boulevard and Cypress Shadows Boulevard (The Preserve at Corkscrew) vehicles are using temporary lanes on the north side of the road to allow crews to work on the south side of Corkscrew Road.
  • Turn lanes are currently unavailable at Wild Blue Boulevard and Cypress Shadows Boulevard (The Preserve at Corkscrew).

Crews are installing curb, drainage, and sod, as well as performing earthwork, and relocating utilities. MOTORISTS ARE REMINDED TO OBEY THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. Estimated completion is late 2023. Project cost is approximately $23 M.
