recognition policy“Recognition Policy”

In the wake of the Lee County action to remove the designation for the “Don Eslick Bridge”, Council discussed setting a policy for recognizing those people who have made significant contributions to the Estero community.

Council asked staff to look at how other municipalities recognize special efforts and/or contributions made by its citizens.

Council came to a consensus to have staff prepare a resolution to rename the Estero Parkway after Don Eslick.  Eslick is a founding member of the Estero Council of Community Leaders (ECCL) which was established in 2002 to address residents’ concerns and suggestions for how the community should grow.  He also was instrumental in the incorporation efforts which led to Estero becoming a city.  He continues to serve the community as the Interim Chairman and Director Emeritus of the ECCL.

Council will vote on the proposed resolution at their February 20, 2019, meeting.

Design Review Board Process

Council reviewed the fact that the Design Review Board has a new vacancy and is still in need of a state registered landscape architect.

Staff was asked to amend Ordinance No. 2015-01 to consider including the hiring of experts to testify at public hearings, among other items.

No voting occurs during workshops.
