The ceremony started with Boy Scout Troop #30 retiring the old American flag that had flown in front of the Elks Lodge and putting up a new one. David Gerber played taps while Councilmembers and many local residents solemnly observed this traditional service. All joined in for the Pledge of Allegiance.
This was followed by everyone entering the Lodge for a program and luncheon. Keynote speaker for this Memorial Day ceremony was Village of Estero Mayor Katy Errington who is also a Gold Star Mother.
The next scheduled event at the Lodge is a celebration flag ceremony on Flag Day at 6 p.m., June 14.
