Finding Light in Darkness

COVID-19 has impacted nearly every facet of life for people around the world. Businesses and schools are closed, spring travel plans have been put on hold and family gatherings have gone virtual. In spite of all this change and disruption, our community has come together and let hope be the antidote of fear and panic. From blood donations to hundreds of homemade masks to 70 discharged patients who are now COVID-19 survivors, our community has shown its strength.

Don’t Skip Emergency Care Because of Fear of COVID-19

During these challenging times, we want to ensure our community is receiving proper emergency care. Unfortunately, people with urgent health concerns, like stroke or a heart attack, might be forgoing a trip to the emergency department because of fear of COVID-19. It is important to remember to call 911, even in a pandemic, if you or someone you are with experiences a medical emergency.

The Cape Coral Mobile Collection Site Will be Closed Sunday, April 12
The Cape Coral specimen collection site will be closed, but the Lee Convenient Care on U.S. 41 near Page Field will be open. Patients need a physician order and an appointment.

Florida Department of Health (Updated 4/10/2020 at 6:00 pm)

~17,448 positive cases in Florida residents and 520 positive cases in non-Florida residents~

TALLAHASSEE — To keep Florida residents and visitors safe, informed and aware about the status of the virus, the Florida Department of Health has launched a COVID-19 dashboard that will be updated twice daily. We also encourage all Floridians to take the COVID-19 Community Action Survey by visiting www.StrongerThanC19.com.

Today, as of 6 p.m., there are 17,968 total** Florida cases.

While Florida’s testing has increased over the past week, the percent of those testing positive for COVID-19 overall is 11 percent. Of the 15,485 tests performed on April 8, there were 1,314 positive results, or 8 percent.

Twenty-nine people have died who tested positive for COVID-19 in Charlotte, Clay, Dade, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Martin, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Santa Rosa, Sumter and Volusia counties.

New Florida cases include:

  • 437 additional positive COVID-19 cases (430 Florida residents and 7 non-Florida residents) reported to the Florida Department of Health.
  • There are currently 17,448 positive cases in Florida residents and 520 positive cases in non-Florida residents.

Florida recently partnered with private laboratories around the state to expand COVID-19 laboratory testing capacity. This partnership will increase the number of tests conducted each day and ensure Floridians receive the critical health information they need in a timely manner.

Expansion to private laboratories changes the COVID-19 testing landscape in Florida. Private laboratories are running tests as they receive swab samples from practitioners. Testing and reporting times vary among commercial and DOH laboratories. Demographic information may be updated during investigations. These twice daily reports reflect the state’s efforts to accurately and transparently share information.
