A Holiday Message from Dr. Larry Antonucci

Happy Easter and Passover to all who celebrate. To all of our team members working today, thank you for your dedication to our patients and community. For all those whose celebrations look different this year, thank you for your continued commitment to physical distancing. We will all get through this together. In honor of the holidays, we hope today fills all of you with love and optimism.

Our Health Care Heroes Recover from COVID-19

We are overjoyed to share that two of our health care heroes are on recovering after testing positive for COVID-19.

Ivan Muñoz Suarez, a customer service representative at the Outpatient Surgery Center at the Sanctuary, was on a ventilator for eight days in the intense care unit (ICU). This week, Ivan moved out of the ICU and into a hospital room where he will continue his recovery for the next few days. Sanjay Bharath, RN, who works on the medical progressive care unit at Gulf Coast Medical Center, also was on a ventilator for more than a week. Sanjay was discharged and able to return home on Friday.

Our incredible teams gave special send-offs to Ivan and Sanjay as they were wheeled out of the ICUs. Watch the celebratory videos on our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages by following @LeeHealth. We wish Ivan and Sanjay swift, full recoveries.

Another Win for Our Community: Faster Test Results

We recently started in-house testing, which has been extremely helpful in easing frustrations of long waits for results and is helping provide a clearer picture of how COVID-19 is moving through our community. In just a few days, we were able to clear a significant number of our community’s pending tests. Our teams are working tirelessly to provide results within 24 hours.

Florida Department of Health (Updated 4/12/2020 at 6:00 pm)

~19,337 positive cases in Florida residents and 558 positive cases in non-Florida residents~

TALLAHASSEE — To keep Florida residents and visitors safe, informed and aware about the status of the virus, the Florida Department of Health has launched a COVID-19 dashboard that will be updated twice daily. We also encourage all Floridians to take the COVID-19 Community Action Survey by visiting www.StrongerThanC19.com.

Today, as of 6 p.m., there are 19,895 total** Florida cases.

While Florida’s testing has increased over the past week, the percent of those testing positive for COVID-19 overall is 11 percent. Of the 12,388 tests performed on April 11, there were 1,378 positive results, or 11 percent.

Nine people have died who tested positive for COVID-19 in Bradford, Brevard, Flagler, Hillsborough, Jefferson, Marion, Palm Beach, Santa Rosa and Wakulla counties.

New Florida cases include:

  • 548 additional positive COVID-19 cases (543 Florida residents and 5 non-Florida residents) reported to the Florida Department of Health.
  • There are currently 19,337 positive cases in Florida residents and 558 positive cases in non-Florida residents.

Florida recently partnered with private laboratories around the state to expand COVID-19 laboratory testing capacity. This partnership will increase the number of tests conducted each day and ensure Floridians receive the critical health information they need in a timely manner.

Expansion to private laboratories changes the COVID-19 testing landscape in Florida. Private laboratories are running tests as they receive swab samples from practitioners. Testing and reporting times vary among commercial and DOH laboratories. Demographic information may be updated during investigations. These twice daily reports reflect the state’s efforts to accurately and transparently share information.
