We are SWFL Stronger Together
We thank Collier County Commissioner Bill McDaniel and Lee County Commissioner Ray Sandelli for supporting the SWFL Stronger Together campaign. The commissioners wrote a joint, guest opinion article for The News-Press and Naples Daily News calling for the community to help our collaborative efforts with NCH to overcome COVID-19. To read the article, click here.

If you would like to support the SWFL Stronger Together campaign, visit www.SWFLTogether.com. Proceeds will help provide critical resources, equipment and supplies to support our medical teams.

Thank you, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats

Asif Azam, M.D., president of the Society of Hospital Medicine Southwest Florida and Lee Health hospitalist physician, reached out to Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats for assistance making masks. The boat-building company repurposed its Cape Coral facility to produce hundreds of masks for our emergency department patients. Using the prototype from the University of Florida Department of Anesthesia’s prototype, the Nor-Tech team is creating the Halyard H600 two-ply polypropylene masks, just like Dr. Scott Patterson and his team of volunteers. Click here to see photos of the Nor-Tech upholstery team making the masks. We appreciate Dr. Azam and Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats banding together to support our community.

Our Hearts are Overjoyed

A local boy, Alex, told his dad, Markus, that he wanted to do something to support health care workers in our community. Alex decided to draw a picture and write a note. Markus made 500 copies, which will be delivered to our hospitals so that teams throughout Lee Health can see Alex’s note of appreciation. Take a look at his touching ‘thank you’ drawing for our health care staff here. Each picture or handwritten message of support we receive from the community means the world to us. Thank you.

Florida Department of Health (Updated 4/14/2020 at 11:00 am)

~20,394 positive cases in Florida residents and 625 positive cases in non-Florida residents~

TALLAHASSEE —To keep Florida residents and visitors safe, informed and aware about the status of the virus, the Florida Department of Health has launched a COVID-19 dashboard that will be updated twice daily. We also encourage all Floridians to take the COVID-19 Community Action Survey by visiting www.StrongerThanC19.com.

Today, as of 11 a.m., there are 21,367 total** Florida cases.

While Florida’s testing has increased over the past week, the percent of those testing positive for COVID-19 overall is 10 percent. Of the 9,953 tests performed on April 13, there were 1,271 positive results, or 13 percent.

Twenty-five people have died who tested positive for COVID-19 in Bay, Broward, Dade, Hillsborough, Manatee, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Polk and Suwannee counties.

New Florida cases include:

  • 348 additional positive COVID-19 cases (343 Florida residents and 5 non-Florida residents) reported to the Florida Department of Health.
  • There are currently 20,737 positive cases in Florida residents and 630 positive cases in non-Florida residents.

Florida recently partnered with private laboratories around the state to expand COVID-19 laboratory testing capacity. This partnership will increase the number of tests conducted each day and ensure Floridians receive the critical health information they need in a timely manner.

Expansion to private laboratories changes the COVID-19 testing landscape in Florida. Private laboratories are running tests as they receive swab samples from practitioners. Testing and reporting times vary among commercial and DOH laboratories. Demographic information may be updated during investigations. These twice daily reports reflect the state’s efforts to accurately and transparently share information.

  • No new country/territory/area reported cases of COVID-19 in the past 24
    hours.
  • There is no evidence that the Bacille Calmette-Guérin vaccine (BCG) protects
people against infection with COVID-19 virus. Two clinical trials addressing this
question are underway, and WHO will evaluate the evidence when it is
available. In the absence of evidence, WHO does not recommend BCG
vaccination for the prevention of COVID-19. For more details, please see here.
