Today’s News

A Message from Dr. Larry Antonucci

Every day and night, our exceptional team is worthy of our gratitude, respect and admiration. They are our heroes, 24/7/365. But, right now, during these challenging, uncertain times, our health care heroes are showing, even more, their courage, resilience and commitment to caring and service.

Today is National Superhero Day, and we have created a special “Be a Hero to your Healthcare Hero” event on Facebook. Visit the page, and be inspired. Share a story, post a picture, express your appreciation. You can even honor your health care hero by donating to www.LeeHealthStrong.org, which will help provide supplies and resources to continue their lifesaving work. Thank you for joining us in support, recognition and appreciation of our heroes across Lee Health.

Dunkin’ Sprinkles Joy to Patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida
Dunkin’ franchisee Chris Mellgren recently donated 50 Dunkin’ DIY Donut Kits for patients at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. The DIY Kits originated in San Francisco after a franchisee (and parent of three) was looking for creative ways to keep their children entertained during the COVID-19 pandemic. These kits – now available nationwide – include a donut, frosting and sprinkles so children can decorate their own donut creations at home, or in this case the hospital. Click here to see pictures of how this act of kindness brightened the day for our young patients and our health care team.

Thank you, Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, P.A

Florida Department of Health (Updated 4/28/2020 at 11:00 am)

~31,986 positive cases in Florida residents and 860 positive cases in non-Florida residents~

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Health, in order to provide more comprehensive data, releases a report on COVID-19 cases in Florida once per day. The Florida Department of Health COVID-19 dashboard is also providing updates once per day. The state also provides a report detailing surveillance data for every Florida county. Previously, this information was only available for select communities. The surveillance data report is available here.
The Florida Department of Health also releases a list of long-term care facilities in Florida associated with COVID-19 cases with active cases in each facility in order to provide real-time data. The list of long-term care facilities with active COVID-19 cases is available here. To date, 369 individuals that were staff or residents of a long-term care facility have died.
Today, as of 11 a.m., there are 708 new positive COVID-19 cases (696 Florida residents and 12 non-Florida residents) and eighty-three deaths related to COVID-19. There are a total of 32,846 Florida cases** with 1,088 deaths related to COVID-19.
While Florida’s testing has increased over the past week, the percent of those testing positive for COVID-19 overall is 9 percent. On April 27, six percent of new cases** tested positive.
Since 11 a.m. on April 27, eighty-three people have died who tested positive for COVID-19 in Broward, Collier, Columbia, Dade, Duval, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Orange, Palm Beach, Pinellas, Sarasota, St. Lucie and Suwannee counties.
Florida recently partnered with private laboratories around the state to expand COVID-19 laboratory testing capacity. This partnership will increase the number of tests conducted each day and ensure Floridians receive the critical health information they need in a timely manner.
Expansion to private laboratories changes the COVID-19 testing landscape in Florida. Private laboratories are running tests as they receive swab samples from practitioners. Testing and reporting times vary among commercial and DOH laboratories. Demographic information may be updated during investigations. These twice daily reports reflect the state’s efforts to accurately and transparently share information.
