  • Beginning Monday, July 6, the small timber bridge at the entrance to Matlacha Community Park will be restricted to vehicles weighing 10 tons or less. This is not expected to affect summer-camp pickup, boat-ramp use or most park patrons.
The weight restriction, which is the result of a consultant’s recommendation after a bridge inspection, will remain in place until the bridge can be repaired. The Lee County Department of Transportation is creating a repair-plan for the 26-foot bridge. The structure is safe; the weight restriction is a precautionary measure. Lee County Schools

  • It is with great disappointment that we announce the cancellation of our in-person graduations. The decision was made with the Florida Department of Health-Lee County and Hertz Arena. This was an incredibly hard decision but following the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in our community and the health risk associated with large events, we believe this is in the best interest of our graduates and families. We are working on developing a drive-thru ceremony at each high school where the Class of 2020 can wear their cap and gown pick up their diplomas. More details will be forthcoming.
  • As the District works to finalize what Reopening Schools will look like, we want to make sure that our families know that Lee Virtual School is an option for those uncomfortable with sending their child back to school. While there initially was a deadline of June 30th, that has since been extended to August 3rd. By signing up for Lee Virtual, you must commit to one semester of instruction. However, you will not lose the spot at your child’s school. Lee Virtual School is a public school serving grades K-12 for any student seeking a quality education through a flexible format. You can visit the website for more information: https://lvip.leeschools.net/ where you will find a recording of the Information Night that may help answer your questions. If you’re ready to enroll, please apply using the application form.

  • Join Cape Coral native and Houston Texan DB Jaylen Watkins and his nonprofit Opportunity Breeds Opportunities Foundation (O.B.O.) on July 12 as they partner with Suncoast Credit Union to kick off a three-part financial literacy virtual series on Facebook! This series will help you understand credit, financially prepare for college for you or your children and save for the future. If there’s one thing we can all agree on – life comes at you fast. 2020 is nothing like any of us could’ve imagined and many of us were not prepared. That’s why it’s important to be as prepared as possible. The first workshop will feature Fort Myers native, former athlete and Suncoast Credit Union Service Center Manager, Troy Simmons.
