water management

(Left to right) Phil Flood, South Florida Water Management District, Matt Caldwell, eight-year veteran of the Florida House of Representatives, and Charles Dauray, former governing board member of the South Florida Water Management District and President of the Estero Historical Society, gave an overview of the district and its responsibilities.

They reviewed the history of how the district came about and pointed out that there are five water districts in Florida with responsibility for managing the water in the state.

Flood stated the district works at flood protection by maintaining natural conveyances bank to bank and keeping them clear of snags and debris. They have an agreement with Lee County which includes both the north and south branches of the Estero River up to I-75, Halfway Creek and Spring Creek.
