The Village of Estero is honored to now be part of the Tree City USA community as of March 27.
Tree City USA was founded in 1976 to celebrate towns and cities committed to growing their urban canopy. Led by the Arbor Day Foundation, with partners at USDA Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters, it provides the framework for communities to manage and expand their tree cover.
According to the Arbor Day Foundation, trees clean our air and water, provide habitat for wildlife, connect communities and support our health and well-being. Trees also provide shade and cool our cities by up to 10 degrees.
The Arbor Day Foundation is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to planting trees. The Foundation has more than one million members and has planted millions of trees in neighborhoods, communities, cities and forests throughout the world. The Foundation’s stated mission is “to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.”
The Village will recognize National Arbor Day with a proclamation during a Council meeting on April 17. Arbor Day will be celebrated on the last Friday in April, which is April 26.
