Disaster Assistance

FEMA now has a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) in the Village Hall Council Chambers. The DRC is available to provide residents with everything they need to know about how to apply for assistance as a result of Hurricane Ian.

FEMA staff assisted 14 residents the first afternoon they were open in Estero. They ask residents who have insurance to file with them first and then come to the DRC with the insurance estimate.  If a resident has been denied by their insurance agency, they should bring the denial in to the DRC.  They stressed that residents should continue to ask questions of them until they completely understand the process.

FEMA centerThe DRC is in the Village Council Chambers first floor, 9401 Corkscrew Palms Circle near the entrance to Estero Park.  It will be open every day except Sunday and Thanksgiving from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday, November 26.

The Village applied for this DRC four weeks ago.  Unfortunately, the State Emergency Operations Center had only three available DRC’s available at that time which were dedicated to Fort Myers Beach, Pine Island and Sanibel.

Village staff, Councilmembers and a Sunny Groves volunteer traveled throughout the neighborhoods that were drastically affected by the hurricane to place flyers on residents’ mailboxes providing information about this new DRC which opened in Estero on November 17.  In addition, staff emailed DRC information to all the Estero churches and community organizations, as well as posted the information on the Village website and social media.

Please share the information about this important service with all your contacts in order to reach all those in need of assistance.
