Hurricane season peaks from mid-August to mid-October

As we head into the peak season for hurricanes, everyone should review their hurricane preparation plans.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration last week predicted there is a 60% chance for above normal activity this hurricane season.

The weather agency predicts 14 to 20 named storms. The predicted number of hurricanes remains at six to 10, while those storms that hit the major category of at least 111 mph are now forecast to be three to five.

The Village of Estero’s website has a webpage which includes all the information you should need to help you prepare your family and pet plan.  There is a list of important contacts, a list of emergency shelters and a link to sign up for AlertLee emergency alerts from Lee County at https://estero-fl.gov/hurricane-season-june-1-november-30/. .

In addition, there is everything you need to know about flood protection on the Village website at https://estero-fl.gov/floodplain-link-and-resources/.

Everyone should have a family emergency plan in place and hopefully you won’t need to use it.
