Hurricane season peaks from mid-August to mid-October
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is now calling for 14-21 named storms to develop this year, of which 6 to 11 could become hurricanes with 2 to 5 of those that could become major hurricanes. That increases the prediction for the year to “an above-normal level of activity.” Those numbers include the storms we’ve already seen this season: 5 tropical storms and Hurricane Don, which dissipated far off in the north Atlantic.
The Village of Estero’s website has a webpage which includes all the information you should need to help you prepare your family and pet plan. There is a list of important contacts, a list of emergency shelters, evacuation zones and a link to sign up for AlertLee emergency alerts from Lee County at https://estero-fl.gov/hurricane-season-june-1-november-30/. .
In addition, there is everything you need to know about flood protection on the Village website at https://estero-fl.gov/floodplain-link-and-resources/.
Everyone needs to have a family emergency plan in place and hopefully you won’t need to use it.
