If you are a Hurricane Ian survivor who suffered damage to your property, you have additional time to apply for federal disaster assistance. You must have registered for assistance by the January 12, 2023 deadline.
Even if you applied for federal disaster assistance and were originally denied, the Disaster Recovery Center may be able to offer you different options or programs that would apply to your situation.
The Village strongly suggests that if you have been initially denied by FEMA that you come into the Disaster Recovery Center to review your file and explore options with the FEMA staff, in person.
FEMA opened a Disaster Recovery Center in the Village Hall Council Chambers in November to provide personal assistance and recommendations to residents.
They are seeing many people who were originally denied benefits from FEMA come into the Disaster Recovery Center and, working individually with FEMA staff, found ways to modify their application to open opportunities for assistance – where once there were none.
A DRC may be able to help you:
- Apply for assistance. You may also apply for FEMA assistance online or apply/check your status by phone 1-800-621-3362.
- Learn more about disaster assistance programs. • Learn the status of your FEMA application.
- Understand any letters you get from FEMA.
- Find housing and rental assistance information.
- Get answers to questions or resolve problems.
- Get referrals to agencies that may offer other assistance.
- Learn about Small Business Administration (SBA) programs
