Estero on the River and Happehatchee properties

Estero on the River and Happehatchee propertiesThe Village has initiated a Comprehensive Plan amendment and rezoning for approximately 32 acres of the Estero on the River property located at the northeast intersection of US 41 and Corkscrew Road, south of the Estero River.

The Village purchased the property in 2019 and shortly thereafter acquired the Happehatchee site.  The goal is to protect the unique qualities of the site by changing the Future Land Use from Village Center to Public Parks and Recreation, and rezoning from Mixed Use Planned Development (MPD) and Agriculture (AG) to Park and Community Facilities (PCF). The rezoning and future land use designations would better match the intended uses of the sites.

Phase 1 of the project includes protection of the river and the heritage trees, and passive recreation with a walking trail.  Additional walking trails will be added in Phase 2.
