Fertilizing your lawn with nitrogen or phosphorus-based products in the summer (June through September) does more harm than good.
That fertilizer never makes it to the plant roots, it just gets washed into storm drains and floods our valuable waterways with food for unwanted algal blooms.
Wait to fertilize until rainy season is over, and maybe again in March or April.
