Local Roots LLC
A representative for Local Roots LLC requested a temporary use permit for a seasonal farmers market to be held weekly at Coconut Point Mall. They plan to sell farm produce and goods on Thursdays from 9 am to 1pm, from October 1, 2020 to May 27, 2021.
Local Roots has operated at this site for the past four years. There are approximately 50 vendors that will be operating sales from tented stands. The tented stands are to be set up only for the hours of operation, have open sides (without walls) and are typically 100 square feet (10 feet x 10 feet) in size. They plan to follow the CDC guidelines for social distancing and cleaning.
The Board approved this request including the variance to extend the market an extra month of operation in May.
Firestone Tire Center
The applicant was requesting an amendment to the Estero Town Center (Lowe’s Plaza) Commercial Planned Development to allow for Auto Repair and Service Group I as a stand-alone use. This would allow them to construct a Firestone Tire Center on a portion of 3-acre Tract A within the Estero Town Center. The site is in the southeast quadrant of the intersection of Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway.
The 6,400 square-foot building would be set back 25-feet from Corkscrew Road and oriented to the east, with Corkscrew Road to the north. The side of the building would front on Corkscrew Road, as would a portion of the parking lot. A public gathering area was proposed to be located within the 25-foot setback, and a sidewalk would connect the building to the existing sidewalk on Corkscrew Road.
Staff had recommended denial of this application as it is not consistent with the traditional mixed-use land category and does not conform with the Corkscrew Road overlay.
The Board voted to recommend Council deny this request.
