springhill suitesThe applicant presented their request for consumption on premises of alcoholic beverages outdoors in the amenity area, which includes the pool area. The hotel currently operates with a consumption on premises for the inside bar area.  They requested that patrons be able to take drinks from the inside bar to the pool area and by the outdoor fire pits.

The 100-room hotel is located at 10370 Corkscrew Commons Drive between Primrose School and to Embassy Suites.

The Board approved this request with conditions specified by staff.

Mamma Anna Restaurant

Mamma Anna Restaurant was requesting approval for consumption on premises of alcoholic beverages in the restaurant and in an outdoor seating area.  This restaurant is located at 23111 Fashion Drive, in the central area of Coconut Point Mall, close to the Cinema.

The Board approved this request with conditions specified by staff.

The applicant was requesting an administrative variance from the required 5-foot side yard setback to 2.5 feet for the east side yard and 2.3 feet for the west side yard of an existing pool enclosure and pool deck.

The Board approved this request.

Public Information Meeting

Via Coconut

A public information meeting was then conducted for the property called Via Coconut located south of Corkscrew Road, west on Via Coconut Road across from Genova.

This property is under review for a rezoning which would allow for 330 multi-family dwelling units and a maximum of 59,600 square feet of commercial retail/office or medical office space with an option to convert 30,000 square feet of commercial space to 124 hotel rooms.

The applicant described this mixed-use development to include a linear park,  pocket park, dog park, filter marshes and water features throughout, a waterfront restaurant, a resort-type pool, public pavilion over the lake, lush landscaping, 330 luxury residential units with commercial store fronts along the main street.  Their target residents include empty nesters/retirees and young professionals, with rents in the range of $2,000 monthly.

The architecture is considered British West Indies with varying roof lines; the maximum height will be at 59 feet for elevator towers or decorative embellishments. The buildings will be white accented with dark bronze, include stone cladding, awnings and Bermuda shutters.

There will be three paver enhanced entrances to the development from Via Coconut Road.  The applicant will also be providing landscaping for the Via Coconut Road medians.

Public Comment:  Four Genova residents spoke of their concerns regarding stormwater issues, parking and the number of residents in the proposed Via Coconut community.

No voting occurs during public information meetings.
