In advance of the 2020 Census, the U.S. Census Bureau is recruiting thousands of people for temporary jobs across the country.
These positions provide the perfect opportunity to earn some extra income while helping your community. The results of the 2020 Census will help determine each state’s representation in Congress, as well as how certain funds are spent for schools, hospitals, roads, and more. This is your chance to play a part in history and help ensure that everyone in your community is counted.
The Census Bureau is hiring over 1,650 people in Lee County this spring and then 6,000 will be needed in 2020 to verify addresses in our community.
Census workers will work in his/her own community. He/she will already be familiar with the area and will be able to move around it effectively. It will make the process much more efficient if they have representatives from every gated community, sub-division and residential area.
The hours are flexible, so almost any schedule will be accommodated. In addition to weekly pay, workers will be paid $.58 per mile driven. Additionally, participants are paid while attending training. They may work just a few hours per week, or they may work up to 40 hours and up to 8 hours per day. Workers are paid weekly through direct deposit.
If interested, please go to www.2020census.gov/jobs and fill out the application. There will be no “formal” interviews. Within a few weeks, the Atlanta Regional Census Center will call applicants, further explain the position, answer questions and confirm the applicant’s desire to participate over the phone. Applicants will be directed to get fingerprints completed at Census expense and to complete a form through which a background check can be completed. Once these two forms are processed, the applicant will be told when and where to report for Orientation.
