Explore the 19th century religious Koreshan settlement, its structures, and gardens. Join our guided walking tours and learn about these idealistic pioneers. Official Florida Gopher Tortoise Day 2018
Tuesday, April 10th 10:00a.m.
Join a park naturalist in the Art Hall of the Koreshan State Park for a talk on gopher tortoises. Discover exciting facts about these long lived, gentle reptiles. Tortoises are interesting creatures as well as being an ancient species. They are fun to watch and are extremely interesting but we must never lose sight of the fact that they are endangered. Discussion will touch on behaviors, anatomy and fun facts as well as the ability to hold and see the shells of specimens that lived in Koreshan State Park.
Then Walk with an opportunity to observe these amazing tortoises throughout the park. Sightings of Gopher Tortoises are not guaranteed but are highly like as they are very active this time of year foraging for spring greenery and some are hunting for a mate! 3rd Annual CALUSA PALOOZA 2018
Saturday, April 7th 7a.m.-12p.m.
Join us for the 3rd annual Calusa Palooza! Race on the Estero River and support youth paddling sports in SWFL sponsored by the College of Life Foundation. There is a race for everyone! Canoe, kayak, and SUP compete in a 4 or 8-mile race, youth 10 and under compete in a 1 mile race. At this ACA sanctioned event, all participants will receive a dri-fit long-sleeved shirt and lunch! Learning about and purchasing native plants can be a daunting task, but it just got easier! The Coccoloba Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society volunteers are selling native plants at the Koreshan State Historic Site Farmers Market EVERY SUNDAY 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Experts are on hand to help answer your questions and teach you about the wonderful benefits of adding native plants to your landscaping. The Koreshan State Historic Site Boat Ramp! Have you explored the Estero River lately? Now is the time! Koreshan State Historic Site is now offering CANOES and KAYAKS for rent! Enjoy the serenity of our community’s hidden treasure, the Estero River, while paddling the freshly cleared waterway. Canoes rentals are $7.00 for the first hour, and $5.00 each additional hour. Single Kayak rentals are $10.00 for the first hour, and $5.00 each additional hour. Tandem Kayak rentals are $15.00 for the first hour, and $10.00 each additional hour. Rent at the Ranger Station. GUIDED ESTERO RIVER and MOUND KEY KAYAKING TOURS
