Estero High School goes gold for childhood cancer

EHSEstero High School students are asking residents to “go gold” at their football games on September 7 and September 21 to help kids fight cancer.  There will be a variety of items for sale, including socks, bows and shirts ranging in price from $10 to $20, to benefit St. Jude’s Research Hospital.

The students are asking for football fans to help in raising funds for this important cause.

historic trailNational Public Lands Day at Koreshan State Park – September 22

Residents are being asked to participate in a volunteer work day on National Public Lands Day to give back to the park and public lands.

Volunteers will complete various tasks in the historic settlement area as well as trail maintenance.

Work will be taking place in the sun, with little to no shade, so long pants and closed toed shoes are needed as well as sunscreen.  This is event starts at 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.  The park is located at 3800 Corkscrew Road, 992-0311.

The Declaration of Independence“Know Amendments Before You Amend” – October 15

When the 2017-2018 Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) adjourned in May, they placed eight proposed constitutional amendments on the General Election ballot for voter consideration.  At least 60 percent of the vote is required to pass a constitutional amendment in Florida. www.flcrc.gov.

Erika Donalds, CRC member, will review each amendment. Betsy Vaughn, Candidate for school board district 6, will be discussing the sales tax increase requested by the school board.

Salute to VeteransVillage of Estero’s “Salute to Veterans” November 17

The Village of Estero will salute all Estero veterans, active military, first responders and gold star parents from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 17 with a free, family-oriented party at the Estero Community Park.

There will be children’s activities, free hot dogs with fixings, a 21-gun salute, patriotic and pop music performed by Estero concert artist Lindsey Graham as well as recognition of those who are currently serving, or have previously served, our country.

This party is geared to bringing the entire community together in a fun atmosphere.  Mark your calendars now to plan on bringing your family, friends and neighbors, along with your lawn chairs or blankets.

College of Life Foundation Paddle Battle November 17

Paddle BattleThe College of Life Foundation, Inc. will be presenting the first annual race on Lake Babcock at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 17. Everyone is invited to enjoy a friendly competition or cheer on your paddler.  Participants will compete in a 3-mile or 6-mile race on Lake Babcock. Paddlers of all skills are welcome – beginners and advanced! racers will be categorized by age, gender, and paddle craft – canoes, kayaks, and surf skis are welcome.
