Action Items
Additional US 41 landscape maintenance
The Village installed landscaping along US 41 through a Florida Department of Transportation Joint Participation Agreement in 2020. At the time, FDOT would not allow the installation of any trees, but recently agreed to allow the installation of a limited number of small flowering trees or palm trees within some medians.
Once the landscape was installed, a two-year contract for landscape maintenance was to follow. The contractor was not able to meet the contract maintenance conditions and in August 2021 the Village replaced the original contractor due to lack of performance. Over the past eight months, the current contractor has worked to address many of the issues along the corridor. However, even with the improved maintenance, there are areas where plants continue to struggle.
The Village is working with the maintenance contractor and Bruce Howard & Associates to address issues median by median, starting with the northern most medians.
Council approved a contract with P & T Lawn & Tractor Services for $109,872 to replace trees along US 41 and provide additional landscape maintenance work on medians 22-24.
Public Comment: 1 eComment card was received opposed to this proposal.
Via Coconut Point and Williams Road sidewalks
The Village previously received a request for addressing the condition of the sidewalk along Via Coconut Point and Williams Road. A few critical areas were repaired immediately. In order to address the other areas, the Village hired JR Evans Engineering to assess both roadways and prepare construction plans for all areas where tripping hazards or potential ADA hazards exist. JR Evans completed those plans.
Council approved a contract with Cougar Contracting, LLC for $52,815 to fully repair sidewalks along Via Coconut Point and Williams Road, along with a 10% contingency amount of $5,300 to cover unforeseen circumstances which may occur.
Resolution No. 2022-07 amending convenience fee for credit card transactions
Most of the fees collected by the Village are for Community Development Services, primarily building permits. The Village was recently notified that the convenience fee charged by credit card companies has increased from 3% to 3.5% for these transactions. In order to offset this cost, an amendment to the fee schedule was needed.
Council approved this resolution.

There was a first reading of this ordinance considering an amendment to the Commercial Planning Development, specifically deviation 3, for replacement signage for Miromar Outlets. Council passed this first reading to a second reading and public hearing on May 18, 2022.
