Estero High School Color Guard Presentation of Flags
At least two different ceremonies were held in Estero to honor the brave men and women who have served in our nation’s military.
The first ceremony was conducted at the Bonita Springs-Estero Elks Lodge #2753 on November 11. Village Councilmembers joined approximately 70 others honoring Estero veterans. The featured speaker was Gold Star Mother and District 4 Councilmember Katy Errington. Also taking the stage were Mayor Jim Boesch, District 3 Councilmember Jon McLain and FGCU’s Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the FGCU Foundation Christopher Simoneau. This event started with the Presentation of Flags by veterans and also included a free lunch for veterans.
On a beautiful Saturday, November 17, the Village of Estero honored all Estero veterans, active military, first responders and Gold Star parents at the Estero Community Park. The event was attended by approximately 300 residents including State Senator Kathleen Passidomo, State Representative Ray Rodrigues and Village Councilmembers. All enjoyed free hot dogs, military theme songs and a rifle salute by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
A patriotic music performance was presented by Estero concert artist Lindsey Graham, who called to the stage all who have served or who are currently serving our country. She later performed an enthusiastic American pop music concert. For the youngsters in the crowd, there was a bounce house, face painting and painting individual patriotic tee shirts.
Mayor Jim Boesch welcomed all to the event. Featured speaker was Major General James Dozer who gave an inspiring presentation on how everyone should be involved in their community for the success of our country. Dozer’s military career spanned 35 years and he is the recipient of the Silver Star for heroism and Purple Heart for wounds received in combat in Viet Nam.
This event was co-hosted by Legacy Church Pastor Nolen Rollins and District 3 Councilmember Jon McLain, and was sponsored by Estero’s Village Council and staff, Estero Chamber of Commerce, Estero Council of Community Leaders, Estero Fire Rescue, Estero Historical Society, Estero Houses of Worship, and the College of Life Foundation.
