The Village Council plans to honor the late “Mr. Estero” Don Eslick by presenting a framed image of a memorial plaque to his wife Suzie during a 10th anniversary reception following their Council meeting at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.  The actual bronze plaque will hang in the Village Hall.

Council will also acknowledge those who were actively involved in the incorporation effort as well as Estero’s first councilmembers.

BACKGROUND

In July 2013, Estero Council of Community Leaders (ECCL) volunteers formed a transition team to begin the incorporation effort.

The team included ECCL Chairman Emeritus Don Eslick (aka “Mr. Estero”), Chairman Nick Batos, Directors Howard Levitan, Phil Douglas, Bob Lienesch, Jim Boesch, Roger Strelow, Marilyn Edwards, Incorporation Committee Chair John Goodrich and Jack Lienesch.

Rep. Ray Rodrigues worked to have the incorporation referendum placed on the November 4, 2014, ballot, which resulted in 86 percent of Estero residents voting in favor of incorporation.

The Village of Estero was officially created on December 31, 2014.

On March 17, 2015, the first Council meeting was held where Nick Batos was selected to serve as the Village’s first mayor.  The new Council was comprised of Batos, Don Brown, Jim Boesch, Katy Errington, Howard Levitan, Bill Ribble, and Jim Wilson.

The late Peter Lombardi served as Interim Village Manager and Burt Saunders served as the Village Attorney.
