Anne Rupp and Annette Paul
Kudos to the Estero residents who have joined together again this season to help keep our roadways free of litter and looking beautiful.
Volunteers in the Adopt a Road program for Via Coconut Point, Williams Road and Estero Parkway have collected 1400 pounds of litter since May. Residents participating in this program are from Cascades, Genova, Mirasol, Pelican Sound, Wildcat Run, Rapallo, Colonial Oaks, Shadow Wood and Lighthouse Bay.
Volunteers in the FDOT program for Estero’s stretch of US 41 have collected 1.3 tons of litter since November of this year. Over 35 communities and businesses have volunteered for this program through the ECCL since October 2020.
In addition, Lee County’s Adopt a Road program involves many Estero residents, organizations and businesses. The roads in this program include Three Oaks Parkway, Corkscrew Road, Ben Hill Griffin Parkway and Estero Parkway east of Three Oaks Parkway. Anyone interested in available sections for this program may contact Ashley Cruz at Lee County Department of Transportation at 239-533-9400.
Marathon Fuel/Dos Amigos Authentic Mexican Grill has generously provided water and ice for the US 41 volunteers since they first started their clean-up project.
Estero Parkway Volunteer Coordinators Char McKenzie and Hugh Ivany recognize 7-Eleven on Estero Parkway for donating bottled water to keep their volunteers hydrated, and Med Express for allowing all of the collected litter to be dumped into their dumpsters.
Residents volunteered through three programs: FDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway Program, Lee County’s Adopt-A-Road Program and the Village of Estero’s Adopt-A-Road Program supported by Keep Lee County Beautiful.
