Residents are invited to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new, professional-level turf field at Jeff Sommer Stadium at 5 p.m. Friday, August 23.
The celebration will feature music, food trucks and remarks from Village and school officials. Then at 7:30 p.m., watch the Estero Wildcats compete against the Riverdale Raiders in their first game of the season.
Over the summer, the Village of Estero had Hellas Construction, Inc., install artificial turf at the football field. This project features products used by professional football leagues including a Cushdrain shock pad to reduce hardness of the playing surface, Matrix Helix synthetic turf, and Ecotherm infill to reduce the temperature of the field surface.
This was the Village’s first improvement project in the new Sports Park.
Earlier this year, the Village Council voted to lease 52.84 acres located next to Estero High School to develop a joint use Sports Park and recreation facility.
The 99-year partnership with the Lee County School Board will provide soccer fields, basketball, baseball, pickleball and walking trails connecting to the Village’s neighboring Entertainment Center.
The Village is required to fund at least $10 million of improvements within the first 5-years of the agreement.
This Sports Park project will result in a first class recreational and sporting venue which will enhance the quality of life for Village residents, and the interscholastic athletic experiences of Estero High School students.
The Village and School Board will make joint use of all of the facilities once completed, with the athletic needs of Estero High School students always taking priority.
This significant agreement also preserves green space in the Village.
