On Friday, March 24 and Monday, March 27, during the daytime hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., motorists should expect the driveway at The Shoppes at Grande Oak (Publix) for Corkscrew Road to be closed for crews to complete underground utility work. To access the shopping plaza, drivers should turn north onto Ben Hill Griffin Parkway and turn right into the plaza. The contractor continues work outside of the travel lanes. Donated not Wasted – Food-rescue campaign begins as seasonal residents head north
Donations to be accepted at Estero Recreation Center March 27 through April 10 Lee County Solid Waste’s fifth annual “Donated not Wasted” food rescue campaign encourages seasonal residents and visitors to donate unopened pantry items before returning north. Since the program’s inception, 25,385 pounds of food has been diverted from potential disposal and sent to the Harry Chapin Food Bank – enough food to provide more than 21,000 meals to residents. Estero Park to host EGGStravaganza featuring the Easter Bunny and an egg hunt on April 8, 2023
Sorry, this event has been sold out. Estero’s EGGStravaganza featuring an adaptive egg hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Estero Recreation Center, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. The egg hunt and the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny are for children ages 12 and under. The cost is $5 per child. Bring your camera and basket. The first egg hunt begins at 10 a.m. This is an outdoor event, weather permitting. Doggie Field Day coming to Estero Park on March 30, 2023
National Walk in the Park Day on March 30 would be even better celebrated with a best friend. Lee County Domestic Animal Services, along with Lee County Parks & Recreation, will host the first Doggie Field Day 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at Estero Park, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. All proceeds from a $5 donation will go directly to the Animal Care Trust Fund which was established in 2002 to provide specialized care and services to stray animals of Lee County. Recreational proposals for Village-owned Williams Road property among topics to be addressed by Council on March 15, 2023
Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, with a proclamation for five Estero High School Cambridge Student Awardees. Action items include ranking of consultants for disaster management services, a landscaping contract for US 41 medians and recreational proposals for the Village-owned Williams Road property. On Thursday, March 9, during the nighttime/overnight hours, motorists should expect crews working in the travel lanes to install additional roadway striping. The new striping will be installed near the intersections of Wildcat Run, WildBlue, and Bella Terra. The contractor continues work outside of the travel lanes. The Koreshan Music Salon will feature Beethoven’s Romance for Violin and Piano in F-Major, and his Serenade for String Trio in D-Major Op. 8 in their concert at the Koreshan State Parks historic Art Hall starting at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 2. The results of the March 7, 2023, election are in and the new District 5 Councilmember is Rafael “Ralph” Lopez. Congratulations to all the Councilmembers who will be sworn in next month. Those include District 3 Jon McLain, District 4 Lori Fayhee, District 5 Rafael Lopez and District 7 George Zalucki. Districts 3, 4 and 7 were unopposed, so they were not on the ballot.
Estero volunteers honored for helping keep our roadways litter-free
KLCB Executive Director Trish Fancher and Julie Yellig Congratulations to the Estero volunteers who were recognized at Keep Lee County Beautiful’s (KLCB) Environmental Stewardship Awards Ceremony with an Outstanding Adoption Group Award on March 2. These volunteers were recognized for their work in the Adopt a Road program to clear litter and debris and improve the environmental health and beauty of Estero. The mission of KLCB is to inspire, educate, and engage the Lee County community in improving, beautifying, and protecting our environment.
