Hurricane debris clean-up reminder
Please make sure all hurricane debris is placed in separate piles (building debris & yard waste). No hazardous materials, recyclable materials or regular household trash should be included in either pile. Do not place any hurricane debris in plastic bags or trash cans as the debris hauler is not able to pick up any debris that is placed in plastic bags or trash cans.

The November 12 Veterans Day event has been canceled due to Hurricane Ian
Village Council reluctantly came to a consensus at their October 19 meeting to cancel the planned November 12 Veterans Day event due to the ongoing efforts by staff to address the impacts of Hurricane Ian. The next planned family-oriented community event will be Light up Estero in December.
Sheltering Operations – Hurricane Ian update from Lee County
Lee County is working with the Florida Department of Emergency Management on a longer-term solution to Hurricane Ian sheltering operations. The county will transition displaced residents from the Hertz Arena and Estero Recreation shelters in a phased approach this week. Evacuees will be relocated to a newly opened shelter. Evacuees at Hertz Arena will depart throughout the day Wednesday, Oct. 19, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. These transitions will continue until all evacuees are moved. March election will bring changes in some Village districts
Redistricting of Council districts is required every 10 years in conjunction with the latest US Census to assure that all 7 Council districts are roughly equal in permanent population. The Village contracted Kurt Spitzer and Associates Governmental Consultants of Tallahassee to provide technical support to the redistricting effort. The new district boundary map is shown above and will be implemented at the time of the next Village general election on March 7, 2023. Council will start their meeting at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, with presentations relating to Hurricane Ian’s impact and the community’s response by Village Manager Steve Sarkozy, Lizbeth Benacquisto, Sarah Owen, and George Zaluki. There will be a first reading of ordinances pertaining to flood hazard reduction standards, Coconut Trace, Pelican Sound, and Genova, with second readings of ordinances pertaining to the Planning, Zoning & Design Board, Estero Town Center, Milan Villas, and an amendment to the Land Development Code for lot coverage. Village Council election coming in March: candidates need to file paperwork soon
The Village of Estero will be holding an election on March 7, 2023, for Council Districts 3, 4, 5 and 7 where three of the four current Councilmembers will be termed out. The Village is asking residents from these districts to consider becoming a candidate for a four-year term Council position. To qualify, a candidate must have lived in the district they wish to represent for a minimum of one year. There are three ways to apply for assistance: 1) DisasterAssistance.gov, 2) download the FEMA App for mobile devices, 3) call toll-free 800-621-3362. The line is open 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Help is available in many languages. FEMA will pay hotel and motel costs for eligible survivors from counties hardest hit by Hurricane Ian. Yesterday, FEMA and the state of Florida activated the Transitional Shelter Assistance Program, providing eligible support for survivors in Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Flagler, Hardee, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lake, Lee, Manatee, Orange, Osceola, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties.
