Lee County has the following updates Wednesday morning on Hurricane Ian: If you need to get to a shelter, proceed with caution as conditions worsened overnight, and drivers may encounter debris and squalls. Corkscrew motorists should expect slower than usual traffic when approaching The Preserve as work is occurring in the community’s entrance. The following work activities are scheduled to occur, however unforeseen underground conditions and weather may affect this schedule. During the nighttime/overnight hours of 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday, August 14, and Monday, August 15, crews will be installing the signal arms over the roadway at Stoneybrook Golf Drive and Bella Terra Boulevard. Lee County Domestic Animal Services staff will be at various off-site locations to be available for residents to bring stray animals to be scanned for microchips. It’s called the “Do What’s Right – Reunite” initiative. Independence Day created an influx of stray pets because of firework celebrations, which frequently startle dogs and cats. Animal Services experiences this each year and recognizes that it is not always convenient for residents to bring animals they have found to the county facility within 24 hours, which is required by county ordinance. The following work activities are scheduled to occur, however unforeseen underground conditions and weather may affect this schedule.  Corkscrew motorists should expect slower than usual traffic when approaching communities along Corkscrew Road.  Work is occurring in The Preserve’s entranceand many turn lanes into other communities are closed. During the nighttime/overnight hours of 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, June 27, crews will be installing a water main under Bella Terra Boulevard.  Both directions of traffic will first use the exit as crews work in the entrance and then the contractor will shift traffic to use the entrance as crews [Read More.]

Congratulations to teacher Kea McElfresh and her students Estero High School students videotaped a Public Service Announcement (PSA) which has recently aired on WINK-TV to help educate the public on the impact of drunk driving.  Here’s a link to the video.  The Estero students’ PSA addresses what can result from driving drunk. The videotaping took place over several days and was coordinated by Kea McElfresh, Theater/TV Production teacher at Estero High School, with WINK-TV, Estero Fire Rescue, Lee County Sherriff’s Office, Bonita Video and Estero Life Magazine.
