Council conducted an emergency meeting on Tuesday in order to address a resolution pertaining to the potential threat of Hurricane Idalia.  The Village was taking action as a precautionary step to protect all residents.  A state of a local emergency is a necessary procedure to ensure the Village can recover any costs, should damage occur. Lee County Government will be conducting a livestream update on Tropical Storm Idalia at 5:30 p.m. today; you may watch it here. The Knights of Columbus sponsor a Blue Mass to show support, appreciation, and to thank all Lee County first responders – law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS personnel – for their services to our community. The Estero Forever Foundation (EFF) has partnered with the Village to provide volunteers to help clean the grounds and assist with maintaining the existing buildings on the Estero River Park property. EFF is forming a “Brigade” of volunteers to accomplish this work.  If you would like to join the “Brigade,” please fill out the volunteer application here. Estero River Park, also known as Estero on the River, is located on the northwest corner of US 41 and Corkscrew Road.

Wawa Convenience Store The Board will start their meeting at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, with a public hearing for the RiverCreek Phase III development order to construct 200 single family homes at 12840 Corkscrew Road. During the nighttime/overnight hours of 9 p.m., Thursday, August 17 to 5 a.m. on Friday, August 18, crews will be dismantling the existing signal at the intersection of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway/Stoneybrook Golf Boulevard and Corkscrew Road.  Motorists should expect the right turn lanes closed during this work.  Law enforcement will be onsite to assist motorists.  The new signal is estimated to be operational Friday morning; however, the signal detection will not be fully operational until next week.  Delays should be anticipated. Please use caution and watch for workers and construction vehicles entering and leaving the roadway. Hurricane season peaks from mid-August to mid-October The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is now calling for 14-21 named storms to develop this year, of which 6 to 11 could become hurricanes with 2 to 5 of those that could become major hurricanes. That increases the prediction for the year to “an above-normal level of activity.”  Those numbers include the storms we’ve already seen this season: 5 tropical storms and Hurricane Don, which dissipated far off in the north Atlantic.
