Estero High School students are in the process of videotaping a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to help educate the public on better road safety. The Estero students’ PSA addresses what can result from driving drunk. The videotaping is taking place over several days and is being coordinated by Kea McElfresh, Theater/TV Production teacher with Estero High School, with WINK-TV, Estero Fire Rescue, Lee County Sherriff’s Office, Bonita Video and Estero Life Magazine. Council presented Burt Saunders, Esq., Gray Robinson P.A., with a proclamation recognizing him for serving as Village Attorney since the Village’s first meeting on March 17, 2015 through April 20, 2022.  Saunders was acknowledged for being uniquely qualified to provide assistance to a newly established government, and being integral to establishing procedures from the Village’s initial startup to present. Lockwood House The meeting started with a short briefing on the Estero on the River property by Community Development Director Mary Gibbs and Public Works Director David Willems.  This is the 67-acre property off of US 41 and Corkscrew Road. The portion of the property south of the river will be rezoned for park and open space public use. The Village plans to construct walking trails as the first phase. The property contains several older buildings and structures that had previously been identified as potential historical resources. Approximately 50 residents attended the public meeting held Thursday evening at the Estero Recreation Center to relay information and gather residents’ input on the Village’s proposed design improvements to Williams Road at Atlantic Gulf Boulevard directly west of US 41. There were a number of enlarged concepts of the roadway for residents to review, with team members at each location to explain the proposed changes, to take comments and answer questions. Donations accepted April 4 through April 18 Lee County Solid Waste’s “Donated not Wasted” food rescue campaign encourages seasonal residents and visitors to donate unopened pantry items before returning north. Estero residents can drop off unopened canned or dry goods from Monday, April 5, to Friday, April 18, at the South County Regional Library, 21100 Three Oaks Parkway or Estero Recreation Center, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Blvd. Since the program’s inception, 15,193 pounds of food has been diverted from potential disposal and sent to the Harry Chapin Food Bank – enough food to provide 12,660 meals.
