Vice-Mayor Jon McLain holds the proclamation and Casey Bishop is holding the Key to the City which was presented to her by Mayor Katy Errington. Council started their meeting with a proclamation and key to the city presentation for one of American Idol’s Top 4 finalists and Estero resident Casey Bishop.  Bishop wowed the judges and won the hearts of Estero residents when, at 15, she made her first appearance on the show.  Now 16, she is a student at Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts and continues her interest in a vocal career. The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted October 19, 2021, to approve funding agreements with the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for $4.5 million to harden the roofs, windows and doors at Hertz Arena, 11000 Everglades Parkway, and $2.8 million to do the same at FGCU’s Alico Arena, 12181 FGCU Lake Parkway, which both serve as emergency shelters. The grants cover 100% of the cost of hardening these critical facilities, which have served as shelters during emergency declarations in Lee County as well as elsewhere in Florida. The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted October 19, 2021, to award a contract for Phase 1 of the planning, design and permitting for the Larry Kiker Preserve, formerly known as Edison Farms, which is in southeast Lee County and is the second-largest Board acquisition in the history of the county’s Conservation 20/20 program.
