Forecasters are predicting an “above-average” probability of major hurricanes making landfall along the continental United States this season. Lee County Utilities customers may notice a temporary change in taste, odor and color of their water
Lee County Utilities will be temporarily converting its disinfectant process from chloramines to free chlorine residual from June 1 through June 21, 2020. This is a routine measure that is common for water utilities using chloramines as its primary disinfectant. Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks. Council addressed street projects for Corkscrew Road, Williams Road and Coconut Road at their meeting on May 27, 2020

South County Regional Library to open its doors after Memorial Day
Library patrons will be able to visit the library in Estero with limited service, hours and capacity beginning Tuesday, May 26. The library will open at 25% capacity with hours 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Contactless services and book returns will continue. Signs will be posted for following CDC guidelines and floors will be marked to indicate spacing for social distancing. Due to delays caused by COVID-19, the U.S. Census Bureau is still seeking applicants to work for the 2020 Census. These positions are temporary, part-time, 20-40 hours per week, and will last approximately 8-9 weeks. The hours are flexible; you are able set your own schedule. Lee County to open more Parks & Recreation sites and amenities on May 22
The county announced today the re-opening of pools, playgrounds, pavilions, courts, multi-purpose fields (soccer/lacrosse/football), fishing piers and splash pads beginning Friday, May 22. This decision was based on the continued voluntary compliance and the community’s greater awareness for Centers for Disease Control guidelines. Staff will be onsite to help encourage following the CDC guidelines, including social distancing. Parks staff have placed additional signs advising of CDC guidelines at all sites. Estero High School graduation class is being celebrated with personal signage thanks to the Estero Education Initiative
The names of all of the Estero High School 2020 graduating class were proudly posted along the Williams Road school fence on a rainy Friday morning, May 15. District 6 Councilmember Nick Batos, Estero High School Principal Mike Amabile and school staff members were joined by some of the high school students and a number of other community volunteers who placed the signs along Williams Road for Estero residents to see as they drive by. Two additional COVID-19 test sites to open in Fort Myers on Friday, May 15
Quest Diagnostics will open a new COVID-19 drive-through test site in the Walmart parking lot at 4770 Colonial Blvd. and a second test site in the Walmart parking lot at 545 Pine Island Road, North Fort Myers, on May 15. Individuals must be 18 years of age or older to be tested and meet CDC and state and local guidelines for who should be tested.
